Home & Away star Lynne McGranger comes out of hiding for new surprise gig

It’s been less than a year since Lynne McGranger was last seen on our TV screens, making a sad farewell to her beloved character Irene Roberts on Home and Away in August 2025.

Now, the popular soap star, 73, is making a comeback, announcing on social media that she’s set to star in another TV show.

The show? Shark! That’s it. That’s the premise. And yes, with an exclamation mark.

Lynne shared the exciting news on Instagram with some promo shots from the new series, set to air on Home And Away’s rival network, Channel 9.

“If someone had told me I’d be swimming with sharks … I would’ve laughed. But here we are. SHARK. Coming soon to @channel9 and 9Now,” she captioned her post.

The new series will feature six Australian celebrities who will face their greatest fears, entering the waters of the Bahamas with some of the most frightening shark species known to humans.

The bull shark, the hammerhead and the tiger shark all have a starring role. And as for the celebrities? Lynne joins other well-known Aussies including Olympic champ Ariarne Titmus, The Block’s Scott Cam, rugby league footballer Sam Thaiday and actor Matt Nable.

Influencer Tammy Hembrow has also taken some inspiration from her ex Matt Zukowski and his stint on reality TV show I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! and joined the daring line-up.

While Lynne’s announcement may catch some long-time fans by surprise, the thought of seeing her back on our TV screens again was met with a heap of excitement.

“Nothing stops you Lynne,” one happy fan wrote on Instagram.

“Can’t wait to watch Lynne,” another wrote.

Meanwhile, others wished her the best of luck after watching the UK series.

“Braver than me. I watched the U.K. version,” someone shared, while another chimed in with: “Oh my goodness!! Praying!!!”

While no air date has been confirmed by Channel 9, a post about the show shares that the celebrities will be “pushed to their absolute limits” while guided by an Australian shark attack survivor and former Navy clearance diver.

“There’s never been a show like this before. It’s raw, it’s real and it’ll be life-changing!”

It’s also a free trip to the Bahamas. Just saying
