Did You Catch NBC Chicago’s Matt Rodrigues in One Chicago’s Crossover? His Quick Cameo
Chihards who love a blind-and-miss-it moment may have noticed the local anchor’s cameo amid the chaos.
The three-part crossover event between Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. was in no shortage of shocking twists and turns, but Windy City residents may have found themselves pointing to their televisions after NBC Chicago anchor Matt Rodrigues made a guest appearance.
Not only have real-life Chicago firefighters become fan favorites at Firehouse 51, but former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel even guest-starred in three episodes. The One Chicago fandom is great at weaving in realistic Chicagoan details that keep these first responders on their toes, including the occasional guest appearance from NBC Chicago’s Matt Rodrigues, who has guest-starred as himself not once but twice on Chicago Med.

Rodriques upped the ante after he visited Chicago Med, demanding answers amid a city-wide panic. Here’s what happened
NBC Chicago’s Matt Rodrigues on Med’s epic crossover event with Fire and P.D.
The 2026 One Chicago crossover event kick-started with a devastating mass casualty event after a deadly nerve agent exploded within a drug mule on a commercial flight headed to Chicago.
Aside from the tragedy of over a hundred passengers being pronounced dead upon landing, many of the firefighters who breached the plane to save any remaining passengers ended up getting sick from second-hand contamination. The FBI soon got involved due to suspicions of terrorism as the first responders rushed to get anyone suffering from contamination to Gaffney for treatment.
After one young firefighter died due to exposure to the deadly nerve agent, it didn’t take long for the news of the death or tragic commercial flight to spread on social media, leading reporters to flock to Gaffney Chiicago Medical Center for answers.
Amid a high-stress press conference, Gaffney director Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) was tasked with quelling the uproarious crowd of reporters. Emerging from the media circus, NBC Chicago’s Matt Rodrigues was keen to ask Goodwin about the fallout of the mass casualty event.
“Ms. Goodwin, we’re hearing that a first responder has already died,” Rodrigues said, prodding, “Can you confirm-”
“No comment at this time,” Goodwin dutifully volleyed back. As Chihards know, this is far from Goodwin’s first rodeo with reporters.
“But Ms. Goodwin, if there’s an ongoing concern, the public needs to know,” Rodrigues said as Goodwin continued to give him the cold shoulder. Frankly, Goodwin had bigger fish to fry as her doctors worked tirelessly to treat the firefighters and paramedics who were exposed to the deadly nerve agent.
“We’ll issue a statement shortly,” Goodwin told the panicked crowd of reporters. “Right now we are actively treating patients.”
